James was asking photographers to “share with me one photograph that says to you, ‘MERCY”. His sister, and the last member of his nuclear family, had just passed away under the care of hospice and we wanted to do a project for that wonderful program around the world. Even though I am not a photographer I really wanted to help because both of my parents had received loving and supreme care from hospice. So James obliged and slipped in my little piece among images from the Who’s Who of the photo world and wonderful emerging photographers.

Melanie McWhorter wrote a lovely review of this book on her Photo Eye blog. The proceeds from this book and its moving images and words benefit San Diego Hospice and Institute for Palliative Care and Japan Hospice Palliative Care Foundation.
